Do not hesitate to contact the authorized Overhead Door Company to quickly and easily fix your garage door system. Garage doors are under a tremendous amount of tension and can be very dangerous. Working on a garage door can result in injury if you do not know what you are doing.
Here are some common garage door problems (and repairs).
- The garage door won’t open (or close). You might just need new batteries in your remote, keypad, or wall button. Or perhaps they need to be reprogrammed. If the door is stuck open, check to be sure the photoelectric eyes near the base are aligned and not obstructed.
- The garage door sticks. Tracks, rollers or hardware may be dirty. Clean everything with a little household cleaner, then re-lubricate moving parts with a lubricant that is recommended by an IDA Accredited garage door company. The tracks may have small dents or flat spots which can be gently tapped out.
- The garage door sags on one side. If it’s a multi-sectional door, the hinges on one side may need tightening. It’s also possible the tracks on each side are out of alignment – use a level to check.
- The garage door closes then reopens again. Closing pressure or limits may be out of adjustment; you can adjust it, but do so in small increments.
- The garage door doesn’t close all the way. Something may be obstructing the photoelectric eyes, or they may not be aimed directly at one another. If they’re OK, you can increase the closing pressure or adjust the limits, but again, do so in small increments.
- Broken springs or a broken motor. These are the most serious garage door repairs. If you have a broken spring or need repair to your garage door opener, you will need to contact an IDA Accredited garage door company. It is always recommended to replace springs in pairs, to ensure balanced operation.

What should a broken spring cost?
We realize we can't do every service job. Don't be fooled by low service charges or lifetime warranties. When having your spring(s) replaced, a torsion tube and cable drums are usually not needed. A spring change should only cost around $250.00 parts and labor.

Don't be fooled by the name, Look for the Red Ribbon
A broken Torsion Spring does not mean you have to change the torsion tube ,drums and all the other parts. Some companies tell you that you have to change the torsion tube, drums, and cables. It is not necessary to repair the garage door.

Top 10 safety and security tips for your garage door
We at Overhead Door Company of Daytona Beach are always trying to raise homeowner awareness of Garage Door Safety and keeping homeowners safe all year long.
The garage door is often the largest entry point into the home, and it is important for consumers to keep garage doors and automatic opener systems in proper working condition.
Top 10 safety and security tips to ensure protection throughout the year:
1. Make sure the garage door opener control button is out of the reach of small children. It should be mounted at least 5’ from the floor.
2. Do not let children play with garage door remote controls. This could cause the door to inadvertently close on your vehicle, a person, or a pet.
3. Never place fingers between door sections. Explain the dangers to children and consider pinch-resistant door panels.
4. Consult the owner’s manual and learn how to use the garage door’s emergency release feature. This will allow you to open or close your door manually in the event of a power outage or if your garage door opener fails.
5. Visually inspect the garage door each month. Look at springs, cables, rollers and pulleys for signs of wear. Do not attempt to remove, adjust or repair these parts or anything attached to them. These parts are under high tension, and should only be fixed by a trained door technician.
6. Test the garage door opener’s reversing mechanism monthly by placing a 2x4 board laid flat in the door’s path. If the door does not reverse after contacting the object, call a qualified garage door professional for repair. If the opener has not been replaced since 1993, we recommend replacing the garage door opener with a new one that has safety beams and auto-reverse as a standard feature.
7. While on vacation, unplug the garage door opener unit or use a wall vacation lock console security switch, which renders remotes unusable and is an optional accessory to most openers.
8. Do not leave the garage door partially open. When activated again, it may travel downward and come in contact with an object in its path. This also compromises a home’s security.
9. If the opener does not have rolling-code technology, be sure to change the manufacturer’s standard access codes on the opener and remote control, or consider investing in a newer model with rolling-code technology which changes the access codes each time the opener is used.
10. Never leave the remote control in the car when given to a parking attendant. A stolen remote leaves you more susceptible to home invasion. Always lock your car when left unattended. It’s a small inconvenience for safety and security.
If you don't feel comfortable testing or inspecting your garage door or opener, contact the professionals at The Overhead Door Company of Daytona Beach and schedule a service call today.
